Ellis, Fiddler help Preds halt Red Wings

Hockey Betting Lines

12/26/2008 - Nashville, TN (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Dan Ellis made 38 saves and Vernon Fiddler netted the eventual game-winner late in the second period as the Nashville Predators downed the first-place Detroit Red Wings, 3-2, at the Sommet Center.

Kevin Klein and Greg Zanon also scored while Martin Erat notched two assists for Nashville, which has won three of the last five games on the heels of a three-game slide.

Dan Cleary and Mikael Samuelsson lit the lamp for Detroit, which came in having won three straight and four of its last five. Ty Conklin allowed three goals on 31 shots in taking the loss. Conklin was making his fourth straight start in place of Chris Osgood, who is battling a groin strain.

Nashville took a 2-1 lead on Klein's one-timer off a Rich Peverley pass from the right corner back to the circle for a power-play tally with 6:36 remaining in the middle stanza. Erat then set up Fiddler for a score in front after controlling the disc behind the net for a 3-1 lead at 18:52.

Samuelsson was the recipient of a faked shot and pass from Andreas Lilja at the left point and snuck one past Ellis on the short side from a wide angle down low to make it 3-2 just three minutes into the period but the Preds starter recorded 14 consecutive stops to help his club hang on for the win.

Zanon got things started for the Preds with a blast from just above the left circle off a faceoff 9:29 into the game but Cleary evened the score with 5:56 left in the period, skating in off the right boards and firing a high shot past Ellis to the stick side.

MySportsbook.com week 1 NFL lines

Now that the 2008 NFL schedule is finally out, it is only matter-of-course for lines on “Week 1” to follow.  Of course MySportsbook.com is the first to churn out odds for the NFL’s inaugural week for the upcoming season.   Expect a lot of fireworks the first Thursday night of the season as the defending champion Indianapolis Colts face off against the surprise of the 2008 season, the New Orleans Saints.  These teams were ranked #1 and #3 in the NFL respectively a season ago so a high scoring affair could be in order.  As of now, the Colts will be giving 6 points to the Saints; keep in mind the Saints were one of the better road teams last season going 6-3 SU and 7-2 ATS.  The first Monday night of the season will again provide a “double feature”. Coming off a disappointing season, the Cincinnati Bengals will look to get back to playoffs and improve their public image as they take on the AFC North favorite Baltimore Ravens.  The second game features a couple of teams that haven’t had too much success recently but each could make some noise if the NFC is as weak as it was last year as the San Francisco 49ers host the Arizona Cardinals. The most interesting game of the opening week will feature the NFC champion Bears as they hit the road to take on the NFL’s top team during last year’s regular season, the San Diego Chargers.
